The Grand River Hockey Club continues to grow! As we have put together our development team and are selecting coaches, we are excited to announce that Ahren Spylo has joined our organization and is taking on the role as U16 Head Coach.
Ahren, a Waterloo native, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role of Head Coach for the Grand River Raiders U16 hockey team. Ahren Spylo was known for his wrist shot, speed and skating ability, and stick handling skills. Combined with his size, these attributes made him an ideal power forward. With a professional background as a player, Ahren is set to inspire, motivate, and help build the team to a high standard. With a professional career spanning 13 years and 3 years in the OHL, Ahren is excited to take on the opportunity as Head Coach and work with future hockey stars.
Ahren’s Notable Accomplishments:
**Team Canada: ** Represented the nation internationally with pride and skill.
**Spengler Cup: ** Competed three times, winning once and earning a spot on the First Team All-Star.
**DEL All-Star: ** Recognized as one of the best in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.
**Swiss Elite League All-Star: ** Earned all-star status in one of Europe's premier leagues.
**NHL: ** Selected 83rd overall and signed with the New Jersey Devils.
**KHL: ** Played in the inaugural season of the Kontinental Hockey League.
**Goal-Scoring Prowess: ** Led the DEL with 41 goals in the 2007-08 season. -
**AHL Achievement: ** Scored 25 goals in 50 games during the 2004-05 NHL lockout season for Albany (AHL).
The Grand River Hockey Club along with Ahren, are building a U16 program that will prepare the U16 players for the next level. This program will be in place year after year to provide players with the opportunity to develop and advance.
